The Barbers’ Cutter won the handicap race as part of the Richmond Bridge Boat Club’s inaugural “Round the Islands” race on Saturday 29 August. This was a 6 mile race, beginning and ending at Richmond, which encompassed Eel Pie and Isleworth Ait islands on the Thames. A great effort by the team which comprised: David Maughn, Paul Clarke, Dick Blanchard, David Lee, David Brown and Brind Waldron. Oliver Lee steered the crew to vistory with great skill, whilst Simon O’Leary enjoyed the ride as the passenger. Tom Lee (Bargemaster), was on two wheels, following the race from the shore side shouting encouragement and acting as spotter for upcoming hazards. It should also be noted that the Barbers’ Cutter was the only boat with a passenger, making this all the more satisfying. A great warm up for the Great River Race on 12 September!
